Pickleball is the new craze. The U3A group began in January 2024 at Holmfirth Civic Hall. Since then, the group has thrived, and our membership is now over 40. We have grown so much that we have increased availability to play three, hourly sessions on a Wednesday afternoon beginning at 12.30pm – 3.30pm

We are a mixed group welcoming beginners to more experienced players. No previous experience is necessary.

Each week a text is sent to members on a Saturday to ask when they would like to play. Playlists are then sent out on a Monday for the following Wednesday. Ten players play each hour. So, there are eight people on court and two waiting. The games are short, and people mix in. This ensures that everyone gets lots of court time and plays with different players.

Equipment is provided and many members have now bought their own rackets. It costs £3 per session and is on a pay as you play basis.

Many of us had not played pickleball before but three of us have now attended a pickleball leaders’ course so we can support new players.
